Xzenu Cronström Beskow
Old introduction, that I used for this blog back in 2012 when I lived in Indonesia:
Are racism, sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, antimuslimism, ageism and so on really separate things? No, they are all different forms of the same thing, a phenomenon that I call categorism.
This phenomenon has different expressions, such as prejudice, bigotry and discrimination.
At the core of the problem we have a simple fact. Humans need to divide themselves and each other into categories. This is a necessary tool to get any overview over the world. However, it is a tool that easily devolves into a mental cage or a dirty weapon. When this happens, categorization turns into categorism.
My name is Xzenu Cronström Beskow. @XCBeskow or @99368 on twitter. As an activist, I have spent much of my life fighting against various forms of what I for the last decade has been calling categorism. As an intellectual, I have also spent this time trying to understand the basic problem. Time after time I have seen how solutions based on categorization tend to produce more of the problem we were trying to solve. It simply takes a different form or expression.
This is my blog. I use it to develop and record my thoughts on these matters. Perhaps you will find some of them useful.
By the way. Although I currently live and work in Indonesia, I originally come from Sweden. This blog started out as a travel blog in my native language, and I might still make a few such posts sometimes. Including our exotic letters: åäö, ÅÄÖ.
